Our Mission

The mission of Gumbo de Musique is to use the medium of classical art song to contribute to the broader revitalization and preservation movement of the Cajun French language through preservation, distribution, and education. This is achieved through the commissioning of new works for voice and piano set to Cajun French poetry.

Further, an objective of the project is to diversify the French vocal repertoire available for students and seasoned artists alike to study and perform.

Preservation:

New works will be available through sheet music for purchase, which intrinsically documents Cajun French in a written format. It will also be aurally preserved through the recorded performance of said new works.

Distribution:

EPs and music videos are professionally created to be digitally distributed on global streaming platforms, such as Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music.

Education:

Live performance in recital and lecture formats will educate audiences on Cajun history, culture, and the language itself.
